I needed some insulated pliers for protection while doing some rewiring in my house, and I found these to be just what I needed. I was going to go with a Knipex, Klein or Wiha set, but those brands were way more expensive than these. For reference, one set of Knipex Insulated Lineman's pliers cost the same as this whole set of 3 piece Irwin Insulated pliers. I have always loved Irwin tools, even though they are no longer made in the USA. Most of them are made in China or Taiwan with the exception of the Max Leverage line, which are re-branded NWS tools made in Germany. When I got these I compared them to some other insulated tools that I have from Klein and Wiha, and as far as the insulation goes, I can't tell a difference. They all are rated to 1000V, which is printed on the handle, so I am fairly confident that they are accurate. Now even when using insulated tools, you should still take precautions and turn the power off at the main breaker to the circuit you are working on, but these are nice to have for that extra protection just in case something screw happens, like someone resets the breaker while you are working on it. These don't have the country of origin on them, though I believe they are from Taiwan, but they do have a Double Triangle with the electrical rating (1000V), and the VDE-GS (Verband der Elektrotechnik-Geprüfte Sicherheit / Association of Electrical Engineering-Tested Safety) Electrical Standards symbols molded into the handles and then the product number, IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) code for Insulated Tools, and the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) code for Insulated Tools printed on the inside of the handle (see pictures). These all mean that the tools are compliant with the International Electrical standards for use of Insulated Tools on live electrical circuits, with a max AC voltage rating of 1000V. Overall, just as with all my other Irwin tools, these are really great quality and should last me for the rest of my life to be handed down to my children one day. If you want the extra protection of insulated tools without having to pay top price for them, I can confidently recommend these.
